Training Missions

We consider the world to be our mission field. Since the founding of Christian Formation Ministries, Canon Blewett and Canon Fouse have had the opportunity to respond with training missions planned or completed in the following countries:

Burundi
Five Dioceses in The Anglican Church of Burundi

CFM began in Burundi in 2008 with a chance meeting in Kigali in 2006 between Cris Fouse and Bishop Sixbert Macumi, Buye Diocese, Burundi.

Two priests from Kigeme Diocese, Rwanda, went to Burundi to help the Bishop present CFM to all the clergy of his diocese, plus representatives from all of the other dioceses in Burundi.

The materials are being translated into our native language and French." May Almighty God bless the work of Christian Formation Ministries.

In Christ, The Rt Rev Sixbert Macumi

The Democratic Republic of Congo (Province de l'Eglise Anglicane du Congo) Ten Anglican Dioceses

Due to the war situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the CFM team has not been able to visit the country. However, in August, 2000, nine Archdeacons from the Diocese of Nord Kivu managed to cross the boundary by hiding in the bush, and participated in the training session that took place in Kasese, Western Uganda.

In February 2008, our excellent Ugandan trainer, Canon Benon Kityo, took the CFM training to Bukavu Diocese. The materials are being translated into the Kiswahili of DR Congo, and into French.

Kenya
Thirty-one Anglican Dioceses in the Anglican Province of Kenya

Initial training began in 2003 in the Diocese of Maseno South. Four other Dioceses sent representatives, including two of the bishops. In 2004, we provided the Training of Trainers for leaders of the six Dioceses of Maseno South, Maseno West, Maseno North, Southern Nyanza, Bondo, and Eldoret, and the initial training to representatives from all but Maseno South.

The Republic of Malawi
Four Anglican Dioceses in the Province of Central Africa

Christian Formation was first brought to the Diocese of Northern Malawi in 1997 with training of all the clergy and seminarians, with representation from the Mother's Union. The Lay Readers training was completed the following year and CFM moved out into the parishes. The severe famine of 2001-2003 seriously hampered the work. CFM returned to Northern Malawi in 2006 and also began the work in Upper Shire at that time. Conversations have begun with the Provincial Seminary.

Rwanda
Nine Anglican Dioceses in the Province of Rwanda

The first teaching mission to Rwanda took place in June of 2005 for the clergy of the Diocese of Kigali. Subsequently three training sessions in Anglican Liturgy and Prayer Book Worship were completed at the request of Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini. In July 2007, the CFM training was given to the clergy of the Diocese of Kigeme. The Bishop has implemented the training of twelve leaders in each of his parishes.

Republic of South Africa
Twenty-one Anglican Dioceses in the Province of Southern Africa

Christian Formation was introduced in 1993 in the Dioceses of Bloemfontein and George. Translation was completed in three local languages. Work continued despite the political disruptions. The training was received with great enthusiasm especially by the lay readers. Meanwhile, South Africa and most of the Province of Southern Africa began slipping into the revisionist theology of the West. Renewal is sorely needed in this area.

The Kingdom of Swaziland
One Anglican Diocese in the Province of Southern Africa

A seminar was provided in 1996 for all of the clergy of the Diocese, but a change in Bishops interrupted the work.

The United Republic of Tanzania
Twenty-two Anglican Dioceses in The Anglican Province of Tanzania

Christian Formation Ministries has completed two missions (2000 and 2002) to the Diocese of Ruvuma. In 2002 the Dioceses of Southern Highlands and South West Tanganyika were included. In October 2005, CFM began in the new diocese of Kiteto.

The Republic of Uganda
Thirty-three Anglican Dioceses in The Anglican Province of Uganda

Since 1993, CFM has trained nine Dioceses in Uganda. The work continues under the independent "Christian Formation Ministries - Uganda" formed in January 2004. Eight Bishops form the Steering Committee, under the chairmanship of The Rt. Rev'd Samuel Ssekkadde, Diocese of Namirembe. The Ugandan Coordinator is the Rev. Canon Benon Kityo. The goal of CFM - Uganda is that Canon Kityo and other Ugandan Trainers will train all of Uganda. These Trainers are also moving into other Anglican Provinces, including Kenya, Tanzania, and DR Congo.

United States of America

In the USA, individual parishes make the decision to adopt CFM. Seminars and training conferences are conducted for parishes, groups of parishes, and dioceses.

Recent Correspondence:

Dear Cris,

We always pray for you and think about you. We still pray for your plan of coming Kibaya and we believe that God can make it to be possible. Very often my Bishop is asking me if you have told me the exactly date of your coming.

Last Sunday, in my Parish we had a great day because on 9th August 2009 is Christian Formation Ministries day in our Parish. We have chosen this day because we know how important this Ministry is. This Ministry has brought a big change in our Parish. So, last Sunday all the Churches in my Parish gathered together and worshiped together, and we learned the Christian formation books. We remember our three Maasai Churches that we opened through Christian Formation Ministry.

I am so sorry because I was not able to take photos because my camera has a problem. When you come I will show you the three Churches we opened through CFM.

Your Grandson,
Rev. Samuel Maduma
